Jon Payne
Jon joined our Bournemouth office in January 2005 having previously been called to the Bar in 2003. He is based primarily in the Thames Valley and London but with clients from Cornwall to Northumberland, he practices throughout the country. Recent work has included matters in Chelmsford, York, Norfolk, the Wirral and Swansea.
In addition to defending enforcement action and assisting with licence applications, he lectures widely on licensing and related subjects, providing training to licensing committees, officers of the licensing authority, the trade and to fellow professionals.
After the implementation of the Licensing Act, he submitted what was probably the first appeal and has subsequently obtained one of the largest if not the largest premises licences in the country. In relation to outdoor events, he acts as solicitor to the Association of Festival Organisers and Folk Arts England.
His professional memberships include the Institute of Licensing, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health and a member of Grays Inn. With over 16 years of local authority enforcement experience, he has advised government on a variety of matters, including licensing, safety and mobile home sites.
His clients include large organisations such as the National Trust as well as smaller businesses and various local authorities. For details of some of the organisations that Jon has provided legal services or training, please click here.
