Licensing Department

Stephanie began her career in law in 1999 as an Assistant District Attorney at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office in New York City where she prosecuted a range of cases from violent crimes to drug sales. She now holds dual qualifications, as both a New York Attorney and English Solicitor, and has specialised in Licensing since 2005.

Stephanie Thorne

Stephanie played a key role in the Licensing Department during the 2005 transitional stage, when licensed premises made the switch from the old to the new licensing regime, when she successfully advised and prepared licence applications for licensees across the country.

Stephanie’s approach to licence applications is pre-emptive in that whenever possible and/or necessary she prefers to send draft applications to responsible authorities before submission of the formal application. She then enters into discussions with the responsible authorities so that she can address their concerns in the formal application and therefore ideally have an application agreed in principle before it is submitted.

Stephanie has conducted numerous licensing hearings and has acted for both owners of licensed premises and residential groups objecting to premises licence applications. She also obtained considerable trial experience during her years at the District Attorney’s Office.

Stephanie is married and lives in Bournemouth with her husband and identical twin daughters who were born in 2006.
