Jon joined our Bournemouth office in January 2005 having previously been called to the Bar in 2003 and having gained over 17 years experience of local authority matters. Now cross-qualified as a solicitor, he is based in Oxfordshire with a growning client base in the Thames Valley and London, although he practices throughout the country.
His work areas include health and safety, food safety, fire safety, environmental protection and many other regulatory law areas. He has experience of attending interviews under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act ("PACE"), appearance at magistrates and crown court and has prepared cases that have been heard in the Court of Appeal and High Court.
Jon's professional memberships include the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Institute of Licensing. He is a fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health and a member of Grays Inn. He was instrumental in setting up and operating initatives such as the Southern Health and Safety Liaison group and was the Secretary of one of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Centres. He has advised government on a variety of matters and assisted in the preparation of the fire safety guides under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.
He lectures widely on regulatory matters, both to the trade and to fellow professionals, local authorities and enforcement officers, using his extensive technical as well as legal knowledge of these subjects. His previous employment in an enforcement role with local authorities gives him a distinct advantage in defending clients who find themselves the target of enforcement action.
