Regulation of Sunbeds

On 8th April, 2010 new legislation came into force to control the use of sunbeds in commercial premises.

Various duties are now placed on businesses that operate sunbeds, primarily in relation to preventing children from using them. Other provisions in the future may require that health information be made available and that eye protection is given to customers.

As well as action being taken against a company, it is also possible to prosecute a manager, director or secretary of the company. Local authorities have a duty to enforce the law and have been granted power of entry to inspect tanning salons or similar to ensure that the legal requirements are being met.
